Solus is a fanstastic fully independant rolling release distro that is surprisingly stable and requires little configuration. It supports many desktop enviornments including Budgie (🎉), and I recommend it to most advanced users as it is a personal favorite of mine.
It may require use of the terminal and basic Unix/Linux knowledge to do what you want, so this is not one for beginners. Solus is also a smaller project with fewer packages in the repos, so if you don't like Flatpak this might not be the one for you.
Linux Mint is a Ubuntu/Debian based distro that is geared towards general tech enthusiasts who aren't necessarily as familiar with Linux. It does a great job at providing a familiar interface with no need for terminal usage or excessive configuration, while still allowing plenty of customization and excellent community support for those who need it.
It isn't the most pretty by default, but it should treat anyone well as long as they don't want a Gnome or KDE desktop enviornment.
Zorin OS is the distro I would give to my Grandma if I had to (though please don't go forcing Linux on your relatives), as it's super stable and reliable and should be usable for most people. It has tons of layout options emulating other popular operating systems and looks quite good by default.
It only supports Gnome and experienced users will likely want something else, but Zorin OS is a good choice for general day-to-day use.
